Rim Family Services offers the following services through our Family Resource Center. Our center is available thanks to the California Mental Health Services Act. There is no cost for these services.
Firstly, our programs and services are designed to address the current mental health needs of our mountain community.
Family Resource Center Services:
Parent Café
Come meet with other parents for coffee, donuts, and conversation. Parents are invited to our Parent Café once a month at your child’s elementary school. Just drop the kids off for school and stay for a chance to discuss topics of interest with other parents. Each month we share our ideas and information on topics that are of interest to you. Some of the topics discussed are: school attendance, how to help your children make good friends, and resources available to families on the mountain.
Parent Project
The Parent Project is a group that is based on the curriculum A Parent’s Guide to Changing Destructive Adolescent Behavior. This program helps to empower parents of out-of-control teens. Some of the issues addressed are: truancy, teen violence, bullying, teen drug use, arguing, and family conflict.
Loving Solutions
Loving Solutions is known as Parent Project Jr. The group empowers parents raising difficult children 5 to 10 years old. Loving Solutions addresses the same issues as Parent Project, adapted to fit the needs of parents of younger children.
After School Art & Social Skills
Students have fun learning social skills through games and art projects. This group meets once a month after school at each of the elementary schools in the Rim of the World School District. Each student will bring his or her art project home. Snacks are provided.
Parents As Teachers
Parents As Teachers (PAT) is an early childhood education program. PAT is designed to give parents of children prenatal to 5 years old information and support to help you be your child’s first and best teacher. A Parent Educator will come to your home with a lesson customized for the age of your child. You will receive information on your child’s development and play-based learning activities. Group Connections brings parents in the PAT Program together once a quarter to share experiences and to discuss parenting topics.
Strengthening Families Program (SFP)
The Strengthening Families Program was designed by Dr. Karol Kumpfer and is available to families with teens (SFP) or parents of elementary age children (SFP Elementary). SFP involves the whole family, while SFP Elementary are classes for parents. Come and learn the keys to good communication, stress reduction, and positive behavior modification.
Transition to Independence Process (TIP) Program
All youth and young adults face many decisions as they transition to adulthood. Transition to Independence Process (TIP) provides aid and encouragement to young people as they face this transition. Rim Family Services provides a TIP facilitator to help youth explore education and career goals. Youth also learn how to work toward self-sufficiency in a group or one on one setting.
Therapy
Therapy is available to community members through this program on a limited basis.
